Worth Matravers was once a quarrying village and is one of the prettiest in Dorset, it is rich in historical detail. The village pub (The Square and Compass) has its own museum full of local artifacts. The church is of Norman origin and one of the oldest in Dorset. During the last war the village played a predominant role in the development of radar and some remains can still be seen at St. Aldhelm’s Head.

A four mile drive away is the family resort of Swanage. This is the nearest shopping centre. For entertainment and relaxation there are several pubs and the Mowlem Theatre which provides various entertainments throughout the year. Swanage is also home of a heritage steam railway that offers scenic trips through the local countryside to Corfe Castle. Further drives may take guests to Weymouth, Dorchester, Poole and Bournemouth.

This area is rich in walking trails and the beauty of the Jurassic Coast may be discovered from doorstep of our house. Chiltern Lodge also makes a convenient stop for your first or last stage of the South West Coast Peninsular Path long distance walk.

This area is capable of satisfying a wide range of interests from those who are extremely active to those who want a more sedate experience.…the choice is yours.
