PROJECTS WE SUPPORT….
During the course of conversation guests have shown great interest in some of the work we are involved with in addition to running Chiltern Lodge Bed and Breakfast.
Such has been the interest we have decided to provide a dedicated page giving further access to these ventures.
On our doorstep
We are a local member of the Jurassic Coast Quality Business Scheme and this has enabled us to work with
The Jurrasic Coast Trust as a partner to support outdoor learning on the Jurassic Coast at Durston Country Park
More specifically we are supporting the efforts of the Durlston Country Park to produce educational resources for the many students who visit Durlston each year. This is manifested by us inviting our guests to make a donation to us we then forward the donations to the Jurassic Coast Trust Visitor Payback Scheme who pass them on to the Country Park. By the end of 2009 we have, with the support of our guests, raised over £300.00 to this worthwhile scheme.
We are a member of the Dorset Wildlife Trust
Prior to running Chiltern Lodge Bed and Breakfast we lived in Hong Kong for many years. During the course of this time I became involved with the Spring Blossom Charity. This charity funds the education of girls from families who have very impoverished financial circumstances. Without the support of the charity the girls would have little chance of a school based education. The students from Hong Kong design and deliver a small educational programme aimed at active engagement with the Spring Blossom girls as a way of learning and becoming aware of their life situation. The Hong Kong students are also involved in fund raising initiatives to also help the ‘Spring Blossom’ girls.
The experience has had profound effects on the students from Hong Kong.
We have also taken the this type of project to Nepal where it has had similar effects in a different community.
If you would like a more in depth look at what has been achieved then please follow this link to the websites that have been generated to support many of the trips.
During 2011 we are very pleased to have been able to re-activate our links with the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, an organisation I was pleased to represent as a trustee during some of my years working in Hong Kong. Our fund raising efforts here are all focussed on encouraging guests to contribute a David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation initiative called Tiger Time.
"The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation's campaign TigerTime strives to save the wild tiger and to ban the trade of tiger parts. TigerTime can be found here www.tigertime.info and their petition to ban tiger trade here www.bantigertrade.com. "
Many guests have generously contributed to this scheme.
